while mama wants to teach you the value of being thrifty (one of the celebrated virtues of being one-fourth hakka) and to be responsible to the planet earth we live on, you beat me to the game. how so? u see, when mama was pregnant with your little sister, papa decided to give up our home office to make room for your Auntie Bernadeth to come live with us and help us out a little. together with that decision, we got rid of our work table but couldn't find a buyer on craigslist for this lamp... (see exhibit a below)...
... fast forward 5 months, it so happens that the lamp in your room broke and we decided it's time for you to use a grown-up looking lamp (well, not entirely. the reason papa and mama bought this lamp was because it reminded us of this robot)...(see exhibit b below)...
but you show us big time what "upcycle" means... you turn that lamp into an instrument that only a true star could think of. you share your limelight with that little lamp and sprinkle stardust all over it...
we are so in awe of you and that little brain of yours that harbors imagination that's pure genius... are you sure you are our baby? i assure you your parents are mere pedestrian folks...
and now... to translate your little tune:
小老鼠 上灯台
little mouse, climbed up the table lamp
偷吃油 下不来
to steal a bit of oil and couldn't get down
喵喵喵 猫来了
miao miao miao, came the cat
基哩咕噜 滚下来
"Jiligulu" (*tumbling sound*) the little mouse came tumbling down
