thinking about pain

when it was time to give birth to christian, i was virtually pain-free. i didn't have contractions (i had odd little balls in my belly like charley horses once in a while), and the nurse didn't do the IV because for some reason, rubbing alcohol on the back of my hand hurt that i yelped and she left the job to the anasthesiologist who was a God's gift to pregnant-women-who-needed-drugs. Having the IV and the epidural needles inserted was painless. I'm not sure if I've lucked out the last time. This time round, I actually felt Braxton Hicks contractions, just last week. It was going on and off one particular day and woke me up several times at night. It actually hurt. Owwww. My belly was all balled up like one big melon and little babe would "freeze" her movements (quite comically) and then start to move when it was over. This brought back memories of postpartum recovery (that was when I felt the pain) and I shudder to think that I have to go through it again... i'm a wuss when it comes to pain and my doc is well aware of that - i had the strongest dose of paracetamol he could prescribe to ward off postpartum pain (which worked) I'm hoping to have the same experience as with the birth of Christian, but no one can really tell. Here's to wishing and hoping and praying and stretching.
