a growing list

I'm starting to knit again. I had problems with the casting on as the baby knits I had done were curling at the bottom. I had given up on my projects. A few months ago, I got an old copy of vogue knitting at a library sale and it seems that i had used a wrong technique. going to give it another go with this project (via here).

as Christian grows taller, there are more things to child-proof around the house...

  1. The balcony is a great concern, and we will have to think about that soon.
  2. Next, we have to get rid of the curtain tie-backs which are potential hazards: even though I had decided against cords when we installed the drapes, I didn't know the drapes people would include tie-backs. I had assumed they would let me do the installation for the curtain holdbacks.
  3. Christian's also reaching into drawers and climbing up stools to access the countertop. The knives have to go to another drawer but I'd need something to store the knives in ... I think this might do the trick, but I'd have to ask our carpenter to trim it so it fits. got the rationell knife tray, it's of solid construction. and now i can hide the knives and even have a slot for the carving knife!
  4. I also want to make this hooded blanket.

a mousy conversation

unfinished home

here's a sneak peek at our home. to be frank, i'm a little shy about showing bits and pieces of it. for one, i'm very uncertain about my taste and this has so far been a "solo show" aesthetics-wise. anyhoo, here it is, from the vantage point of where i sit with my computer. the walls are a soft gray - the ceiling is painted the same color. The curtains are "champagne", they have a soft sheen and a slubby look in daylight. the couch is IKEA's interpretation of Florence Knoll's, on it cushions from sweet Elaine and behind the couch is this huge teak mirror we scored from craigslist, still unhung. the good thing is that most of the boxes are unpacked but we still have tons to do. i bought the orchids because they were of the same color as a chinese stool (<-- haha) we were thinking of getting. in case you were wondering, yes, i blame martha stewart for such a blatant act of OCD but i just couldn't commit to a SGD150 stool without making sure the color fits into the grand scheme of things....

anyhoo, enough of my obsessing about the mundane (eric's crazy obsessed too - it's 11 pm and he's out in the balcony spray-painting a rack), here's a thrilling video of Christian, who decided to venture into our bedroom when i was putting away bedlinens under our storage bed. He then promptly went to my laptop on my makeshift bedside table (which is currently a Brother printer's old carcass/box), picked up the mouse and started a conversation. Eric had a funnier version of this on his camcorder, unfortunately (believe me you) he recorded it on TAPE and we don't have the technology to upload that on flickr. Enjoy!

domestic affairs

eric kindly mentioned (a couple of times) that i have OCD - i have an insatiable need for the apartment to be spotlessly clean. that's of course, not true. in my humble opinion. but with my delicate constitution, i could no longer do the chores like i used to. hence, to pamper myself and to periodically get rid of cinnamon's "tumbleweeds and fur-bunnies" i'm looking around for a part-time cleaner, so far these look promising:
